Today I learned General Motors and several other companies purchased and dismantled streetcars and electric trains in cities across the United States and replaced them with bus services.

They also prevented the creation of a public transit system in Los Angeles. There are still remnants of a subway system that was killed before it really got going in LA, because the Detroit powers wanted everyone driving cars.

They are directly responsible for the cluster that is today’s LA traffic.

In 1946, E. Quinby alerted transportation officials across the country to what he called “a careful, deliberately planned campaign to swindle you out of your most important and valuable public utilities—your Electric Railway System”. GM and other companies were subsequently convicted in 1949 of conspiring to monopolize the sale of buses.
